This year's event will take place over the Memorial Day weekend on May 26-27.  Right now there's already a field of at least 90 players that has pre-registered in just 19 days!  Last year I went there when they had it capped at 180 players. (90 each in Pro/Am Divisions)  This year they decided to cap it at 72 in each divisions to speed up the rounds a bit.

If anyone wants to go to this tourney, I'd suggest signing up as soon as you can.  I had a blast last year playing just about everything they have to offer.  The random draw doubles at Hawk Hollow. (Unfortunately I've only got to play 10-12 baskets or so before this fantastic sunny weather turned into this huge torrential downpour & got us all drenched. lol)  They have two 18 basket courses, The Darkside and The Sunnyside & both are pretty challenging.  It's like a mini Paw Paw to some players.  There's also a 2 Par-2 9 baskets lighted courses where you could play all night long.  There will be a Tiki-Madness tourney.

It's worth the trip if anyone from WV could make this A-Tier tournament  to their state next door!

John - This sounds like fun, but you are right, they already filled!  Oh well, there's always next year.  Good luck at this one.

Yep....they filled up pretty quickly just as I've expected.  Looks like I'll be the only one representing WV this year!

As it turns out, the VA Open will take in 180 players once again after all.  I've just got this e-mail from the tourney director a couple of days ago.   Since my last posting, there's two other fellow disc golfers from WV that had signed up for this tourney.  There's gonna be a waiting list if anyone wants to take the chance.  The update's posted below:

Virginia Open Update
-----------------------------As some of you may know, near the end of January we expanded the field for the Virginia Open from the intended 144 spots back to the 180 we have had in year's past. There were very good arguments for keeping it at 144 but in the end we decided that 5-somes at The Grange are manageable. Couple that with the fact that the tournament is a USDGC and Marshall Street qualifier and it's not hard to understand why we decided to include as many players as possible in this year's tournament. The Pro side of the field was immediately filled from the waiting list with the Ams filling up their remaining spots before the month was out. At this time the waiting list is rather lengthy for both divisions. If you were planning to register but didn't get in we would appreciate it if you would still show us your interest by signing up for a waiting list spot. You can do this through the online registration linked from our web-site, http://www.grangediscgolf.com.

The date for the 2007 Virginia Open play-in Monthly is set for Sunday, May 13th. We will be awarding 1 entry to the Virginia Open for the best Pro score and 1 entry for the best Am score. Those already registered for the Virginia Open are not eligible to win either of these. These prizes will be awarded in addition to the normal tournament payout.

Plenty of hole sponsorships are still available. If you are interested you they may be purchased online through our event registration site. See http://www.grangediscgolf.com for details.

If you know of any vendors that may be interested in sponsoring our event please contact me for our vendor sponsorship price guide. We have several levels of opportunity available. I can be reached at gblaw65@yahoo.com or by cell:540-842-1327.
