Nothing short of a state of emergency will stop the West Virginia Disc Golf Association from hosting the Ice Bowl this Saturday in Fairmont.

Disc golf is a growing sport that is played similarly to golf. Players start off at a cement tee pad and throw a disc toward an elevated metal basket. Although the holes are not nearly as far away as in golf, the objective remains the same.

The player who gets the disc in the basket in the fewest throws is the winner.

Most courses are located in public parks and are free to play. A new course in Morgantown's Krepps Park has even been proposed.

''It is growing fast but is still not amazingly popular,'' said Jason Stalnaker, course planner for the Seth Burton Memorial Disc Golf Course.
